In a recent interview with Xinhua, Maitree Intusut, governor of Phuket province who took office last October, highlighted the constantly growing number of foreign tourists to the island, one of the most popular travel destinations in Thailand.

He said the local government has taken measures to protect the life and property of foreign tourists by deploying guard patrols and law-enforcement units in tourist-concentrated areas. Effort has also been made to crack down on black-licensed taxis and tour guides.
