DAMASCUS, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian army and its allies haveunleashed a military campaign called the "Great Dawn" against theIslamic State (IS) group on several Syrian fronts, a militarysource told Xinhua on Friday.


The operation has started a few days ago, during which the armyand its allies captured 13,000 square kilometers in central Syria,mainly in the Syrian desert in the southeastern countryside of Homsprovince in central Syria Nike Vapormax Flyknit Pure Platinum Grigie Scontate , and in the mountainous Qalamoun regionnorthwest of the capital Damascus.


The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said theoperation is the largest against IS since the war in Syria startedover six years ago.


The Syrian army and allies swiftly advanced and broke throughthe defenses of the IS militants in the southeastern countryside ofHoms, where they captured several key areas from theterror-designated group, the source said.


The military operation also enabled the Syrian army to securethe highway between the capital Damascus and the ancient city ofPalmyra.
