I just feel good. Antworten

VANCOUVER - Soon after being named the head coach of the B.C. Lions, Jeff Tedford set his sights on an old colleague to help him transition back into the CFL.He got his man Thursday when the Lions rounded out their staff by naming George Cortez as the clubs new offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach.Cortez held the same two positions from 2002 to 2005 when Tedford was the head coach at the University of California-Berkley.Any time you have something like the past weve had together, I can say a term and he can know exactly what were talking about, Tedford said on a conference call. Were not reinventing the wheel. I think its going to go very quickly and very smooth.Cortez has a long CFL resume and served as the Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive co-ordinator the last two seasons, helping the club capture the 2013 Grey Cup.Tedford — who played and coached in the CFL in the 1980s and early 1990s, but has been south of the border ever since — said it was important to add a veteran offensive co-ordinator to help him get reacquainted with the Canadian game.Someone who has the background George does and has been very successful, I felt like that would be a great buffer for me to be able to shorten that learning curve so that we can hit the ground running, said Tedford. Were kind of speaking the same language.Getting the Lions offence back on track will be key in 2015 after the club struggled through injuries and inconsistency last season.B.C. finished a roller-coaster campaign 9-9 before getting blown out in the playoffs, a result that ultimately cost head coach Mike Benevides his job.I think theres talent there, said Tedford, who was hired in December. I really think theres a strong foundation to be successful and its going to be our job to go in and get the most we can out of the guys.Tedford also elected to retain defensive co-ordinator Mark Washington after his unit performed well last season despite being left on the field for long stretches thanks to that anemic offence.Once I saw the numbers, got a chance to watch some tape and had a chance to meet with Mark and talk to him, I was very impressed, said Tedford. The numbers kind of speak for themselves, but to have a chance to sit down with him and visit with him and understand that hes a great person, thats very important to me.Im really exited that he chose to stay because he an excellent coach and an excellent person.Washington will also coach the defensive backs, Johnny Holland is back to coach the linebackers and Chuck McMann will return to coach special teams and running backs. In a bit of a twist, Khari Jones will stay on as receivers coach, a demotion from the offensive co-ordinator position he held last season. In other moves announced Thursday, B.C. added Doug Malone, who has coached under Cortez in the past, to lead the offensive line, while Robin Ross, who worked with Tedford at both Fresno State and Oregon, will serve as the Lions defensive line coach in his first CFL job.Tedfords son, Quinn, will be in charge of quality control on offence, while former CFL player Willie Fields will hold the same position with the defence and also assist with the defensive backs. Dickey earned an American League Gold Glove on Tuesday to become the first Toronto Blue Jays pitcher to win the award.ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Von Miller is back -- and bigger than ever. His coach and his teammates said Denvers All-Pro linebacker looked great Wednesday in his first practice since serving his six-game drug abuse suspension -- all 270 pounds of him. Thats how much Miller said he weighed in at this week, a good 24 pounds heavier than when he won Defensive Rookie of the Year honours in 2011. Miller has long wanted to gain weight because he figures it will help him overpower offensive linemen. Six weeks of watching games on his TV gave him that chance, although by all accounts he was far from a couch potato during his banishment for violating the leagues drug-abuse policy. Miller said he had no trouble with the extra muscle or the altitude because he served his suspension working with the Broncos trainers, a nutritionist and a personal pass rush specialist so that his cardiovascular conditioning wouldnt be an issue upon his return. "I feel good. Im in the best shape of my life," Miller said. "I feel a lot stronger, quicker, faster. Its not like Im running 100 yards or 400 yards there, so I definitely felt good. All the feedback I was getting from my teammates and everybody looked like I was good. There was a hurry-up period in there that was tough, but thats what its designed to be is tough." Coach John Fox said Miller "had an outstanding practice. Obviously hes got fresh legs and ready to roll and excited about the opportunity this week." Safety Rahim Moore said, "Im quite sure he misses the game a lot but he hasnt missed a step. He had a great practice today. He looked good. Im looking forward to watching him play." The Broncos may have gone 6-0 in Millers absence, but they sorely missed him disrupting quarterbacks -- theyre ranked dead last in the league in pass defence. "Hes going to make a hhuge difference," cornerback Chris Harris said.dddddddddddd"Teams have just been coming out and saying, Its going to be seven on seven, were just going to throw the ball. If they come out and do that now, we have our rusher now to where they cant just sit back and pass the ball all day like that." Miller was clearly relieved to return to practice and answer questions about football after months of stories about his suspension and about traffic tickets. "I feel stronger just all around, mentally, physically, all around," Miller said. "When you dont have to worry about nothing, its just football, its a whole lot easier. Ive been studying and everything. I just feel good. Ive said it before. Im in a great place physically and mentally." Miller said hes been "paying attention in meetings, even more so than I would do normally. But I was ready to go. I wanted to make sure when I came back that I wasnt a step behind. If anything, Ive been conditioning and working out and doing everything possible to get myself ready for practice and the games." Miller also spent a week during his suspension working with renowned pass-rush specialist Chuck Smith, a former defensive end with the Atlanta Falcons. "Definitely working with a guy that focuses on pass rush, especially for me while I had all this time off to focus on that, it was instrumental," Miller said. "He didnt try to change me; he just helped me." The Broncos also welcomed back middle linebacker Wesley Woodyard (shoulder stringer) and defensive end Robert Ayers (shoulder) back to practice after both missed a week. Miller, who had 30 sacks in his first two seasons, including a franchise-record 18 1/2 last season, makes his debut Sunday against the Colts (4-2) in Peyton Mannings return to Indianapolis. ' ' '
