LOS ANGELES -- The Clippers told themselves they couldnt make any excuses. Didnt matter how physically tired or mentally drained they were from a seven-game trip. They had to find a way to win, just like San Antonio -- a team Doc Rivers calls "the gold standard"-- typically does. And the Clippers did, notching their largest margin of victory ever against the Spurs. Blake Griffin scored 27 points, hitting 11 of 15 free throws, in the 115-92 win Monday night, 48 hours after returning to Los Angeles. "The best part about this game was we knew what we had to do," Griffin said. "We executed our game plan. Even when they made runs nobody got down. That positive attitude is big." Chris Paul added 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Jamal Crawford had 17 points in his second straight start for the Clippers, who repelled several threats in the third quarter to maintain their lead. "Another good win for us coming off the road trip," said Paul, who wont be dwelling on it. "We got to get past it." Tim Duncan had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, whose four-game winning streak ended. Tony Parker limped off the court with a right shin contusion with 5:09 left in the third. He finished with eight points and six assists in 26 minutes, and didnt speak with reporters afterward. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Parker was in pain and having trouble walking on it, so he had to be taken out of the game. "He has the ball in his hands for a long time, especially when it counts the most," Manu Ginobili said about Parker. "So we couldnt adjust to it and it was hard, especially against a team that is aggressive." DeAndre Jordan added 11 rebounds and Griffin had nine to help the Clippers control the boards, 43-36. Jared Dudley had 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Los Angeles went 4-3 on its road trip, closing it out Saturday with a 113-97 victory over the Washington Wizards. The Clippers didnt practice Sunday before facing off against the Spurs, whose 19-5 record is third-best in the NBA. "It tells you theyre in it mentally," Rivers said of his team. "Very proud of them. I think they wanted to win very bad." San Antonio made one last run to open the fourth, getting consecutive 3-pointers from Patty Mills and Danny Green that drew the Spurs to 86-82. The Clippers dominated the rest of the way, stretching their lead to 106-86 during a 20-4 run that ended with three 3-pointers in a row: one by Willie Green and two by Dudley. Crawford put one last dagger in the Spurs as he dribbled down the final seconds before casually popping a deep 3 for the final basket. "We turned the ball over way too much (22 times) and went through bad stretches. We just cant put games together like that and expect to win," Duncan said. "But its early in the season and were going to learn every one of these losses and continue to grow as a team. Hopefully at the end of the year, were a better ballclub because of it." The Clippers stretched their lead to 59-51 early in the third before the Spurs cut it to 59-58 after scoring eight straight points. Crawford, Griffin and Paul took over the rest of the third, combining to score the Clippers last 20 points and stretch their lead to 78-70 going into the fourth. Crawford launched the 20-12 run by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers. The Spurs got within three points on a layup by Ginobili before Griffin scored six of the Clippers next eight points to extend their lead. "Its my job to keep feeding him," Paul said of Griffin. "I love it when he demands the ball. Were going to keep playing through him every night." The Clippers trailed 28-21 after the opening quarter before unleashing a 19-0 run early in the second. Green bookended the spurt with 3-pointers, and in between five different Clippers scored to give them a 40-31 lead. Griffin scored their final eight points to send them into halftime leading 55-49. NOTES: Crawford started for the second straight game and just the second time in 102 games with the team. ... OTTAWA, Ont. -- The Florida Panthers may have come into Ottawa with new leaders, but they left with a familiar result. Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist in the Senators 3-2 win over Florida on Saturday, spoiling the debut of the Panthers new coaching staff. Kevin Dineen was let go as the head coach of the Panthers on Friday along with assistant coaches Gord Murphy and Craig Ramsay. Dineen was replaced with Peter Horachek, who was the coach of Floridas minor-league team in San Antonio. Original Florida captain Brian Skrudland -- who had been serving as the teams director of player development -- and former Panthers centre John Madden became the replacements for Murphy and Ramsay. The trio had barely 24 hours, and one practice in order to get the team ready for a pair of weekend games. "Its impossible and its not going to happen so what you can do is make little changes," Horachek said after the game. "What you hopefully are going to create is an attitude about work. When there are changes, people hesitate. You know, theyre not playing the way they need to, just reacting instead of thinking, and so you add a little bit each time and hopefully youre going to continue that and get them to a place where the work is fun and the work is solid and consistent." Mika Zibanejad and Clarke McArthur also scored for the Senators (7-6-4), who won for the third straight time. Lehner made 25 saves for the win. Nick Bjugstad and Marcel Goc replied for the Panthers (3-10-4), who have now lost eight straight, despite a 28-save performance from Tim Thomas in his first game back after missing six straight with a lower body injury. "Were starting to feel pretty good about ourselves," Senators coach Paul MacLean said. "I thought the way we played was pretty solid and Robin Lehner gave us another good game. We also kept the shots under 30 which certainly gives our goalies a chance to play well. "I thought our penalty killing, especially the five-on-three in the third period with Derek Grant, Marc Methot and Jared Cowen was outstanding and a big reason why we won the game." Trailing 3-1, the Panthers had a two-man advantage for a minute and 17 seconds in the third period and despite controlling the puck for nearly the entire time, they were unable to beat Lehner and put only three shots on net. The Senators took four minor penalties in the third period alone. "That five-on-three was huge," Senators defenceman Methot said. "Its very frustrating as a player, especially towards the end when were taking all those penalties.dddddddddddd Its like were trying to give them an opportunity to get back in the game, but Lehner was huge for us back there." Less than three minutes after the second penalty ended, Goc beat Lehner with a wrist shot to pull the Panthers to within a goal. After passing the puck around the Panthers end, McArthur was finally able to put a one-timer past Thomas after taking a pass from defenceman Erik Karlsson. Two quick goals by the Senators put the Panthers on their heels early and presented the visitors with a deficit from which they were never able to recover. The first goal came off the stick of Turris, but it was the work of Bobby Ryan that made it possible. Ryan broke in alone on the Boston goal and was stopped by Thomas, but Ryan followed the puck to the corner and sent a pass to Turris at the edge of the faceoff circle. Turriss shot promptly beat Thomas with at 1:45. Just 19 seconds later, Zibanejad scored from behind the net as he banked a shot off Panthers defenceman Erik Gudbranson and in following a Florida turnover in their own end. "The game started out a little scrambly and I felt a little out of sorts at the beginning and kind of wasnt awake for that first goal," Thomas said. "I wasnt expecting a shot to come from that angle and I had to get back into game type of thinking rather than practice." The Panthers got on the board one minute later on a great effort from Bjugstad, when he got away from Karlsson and cut to the front of the net to jam the puck past Lehner. Karlssons defence partner, Cowen, also appeared to back off while in front of the net allowing Bjugstad extra room. The rest of the period featured multiple odd-man breaks for both sides and a lot of back-and-forth play, but no more goals.
