EAGAN Irv Smith Jersey Cheap , Minn. (AP) — NFL career left largely unfulfilled, a quarterback with plenty of impressive stats but not enough team success. The scrutiny intensified with the fully guaranteed $84 million contract that Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings last year, a season that ultimately ended for him like all the others in disappointment without a playoff win. This year, Cousins is determined to change that perception.“It’s going to come down to those 16 regular-season games and then beyond that. Unfortunately, you grind in training camp and you get to Labor Day weekend and you look around and you’re like, ‘All that work, and I’ve got nothing to show for it yet,'” Cousins said Wednesday.“Hopefully you’re laying a good foundation and hopefully it shows on Sundays in the fall, but the nature of this next month and a half, whether it’s really good or really bad, it really isn’t what the narrative becomes on you. You have to translate that into a very good season.”His first year with the Vikings was eerily similar to his time with Washington. Though he has passed for at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in four straight seasons and been regularly among the NFL leaders in completion rate, including a career-best mark (70.1 last year that ranked second in the league, Cousins is just 34-37-2 as a starter. He lost his only playoff game start in 2015.The offseason priority for the front office in Minnesota, thus, was to make Cousins more comfortable. He has, in turn Irv Smith Jersey Womens , tried to do his part to take that critical step forward in 2019 and carry a team with Super Bowl aspirations along with him.“I’m pretty much a .500 quarterback in my career so far, and I don’t think that’s where you want to be,” Cousins said recently. “That’s not why you’re brought in or people are excited about you. If I don’t play well, if I don’t have gaudy statistics, but we win multiple playoff games this year, the narrative will be I went to the next level. I may not walk off the field every day feeling like I did, but if we win, that’s the life of the quarterback, you are then at the next level. If I have my best year yet in 2019 but we’re 8-8, I didn’t go to the next level.”Cousins is again partaking in the first three days of training camp, which is for rookies and other inexperienced players. The other veterans don’t need to take the field until Friday.“I think one thing that I can do beyond just playing the best I can is to start really coaching and leading other people so that I can never walk off the field saying, ‘Hey, I did my part but so and so didn’t,'” Cousins said. “That can’t happen as an NFL quarterback. You have to be bringing others along so that isn’t a point you’re making at the end of a practice or a game.”The biggest change to the scheme now directed by offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski was the hiring of Gary Kubiak as an offensive adviser. Kubiak was the offensive coordinator on two Super Bowl winners in Denver for Mike Shanahan, who later became head coach of the Redskins for Cousins’ first two years. In front of Cousins, the offensive line was reworked with first-round draft pick Garrett Bradbury at center, Pat Elflein moving from center to left guard and Josh Kline signing as a free agent to be the right guard.Time can also be a benefit.“His comfort level Irv Smith white jersey , him understanding what’s being asked of him to do,” general manager Rick Spielman said. “They will do things to make sure that he is comfortable in the offense, that will fit his strengths as a quarterback. You can have all the gaudy stats in the world, but this business is always going to come down to wins and losses.”No need to tell Cousins that. Pick a spot, any spot"After toying with the idea of putting kicker as the #1 need for the Minnesota Vikings going into the 2019 NFL Draft, I decided that I didn’t want to deal with the impending riot and put offensive line up at the top of the list instead. Normally we could break this down into tackle and guard, but with the state of the Vikings’ offensive line I think that we can lump the whole group together. This team needs to draft someone to bolster the offensive line early on, and they probably need to draft multiple players to that end.Current Vikings offensive linemen: Riley Reiff (starter), Danny Isidora (starter. . .I guess), Pat Elflein (starter), Josh Kline (starter), Brian O’Neill (starter), Adam Bisnowaty, Aviante Collins, Dakota Dozier, Cornelius Edison, Rashod Hill Irv Smith Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , Brett Jones, Storm NortonThe biggest hole on the offensive line is, currently, at left guard, and I think we all understand that. What we don’t know is how the Vikings intend to fix it. Do they draft a player to plug into the left guard spot, or do they draft someone at tackle or center and shift either Reiff or Elflein into the left guard position? Frankly, I don’t want Reiff to move. . .I don’t particularly want Elflein to move, either, but of the two I’d be more comfortable with Elflein moving over than Reiff. That just my thought process. As far as the backups? They can all fight it out. I’d like to see Jones get a bit more of an opportunity than he got in 2018, but other than that I’m not really all that attached to any of the other potential backups for this team on the offensive line.Who could the Vikings look at and when. If you’ve been following the Mock Draft Database this offseason. . .and shame on you if you haven’t been. . .you know all the big names that most of us are dreaming of hearing Roger Goodell say on Thursday night. I don’t think that Jonah Williams or Jawaan Taylor is going to make it to #18, but there are a ton of other players that the Vikings should be looking at in the first round. If they want to go the tackle route, they should be in the right spot to get their hands on Andre Dillard, by far the best pass blocking tackle in this class. If they want a center, they should be in prime territory for Garrett Bradbury, who would appear to be an ideal fit in the new scheme the Vikings want to run. If they want someone they can just mold at the guard spot, they can look to Cody Ford or Chris Lindstrom or Dalton Risner. The talent on the offensive line is going to be there when the Vikings pick at #18. They might. . .I repeat, might. . .even be able to trade back a bit and still get a Day 1 starter. It’s simply a matter of whether or not Rick Spielman wants to pull the trigger on an offensive lineman in the first round for the first time since 2012.Should the Vikings elect to pass on an offensive lineman in Round 1 Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , they almost certainly have to address the position in Round 2. If that’s the case, you’re probably looking at players like Elgton Jenkins or Eric McCoy among interior linemen, or perhaps even “not that” Michael Jordan. They could also look to someone like Kaleb McGary at tackle, though he’s not someone that I think could immediately start at left tackle. Unless the plan is to. . .deep breath. . .play McGary at right tackle while moving Brian O’Neill to left tackle and Reiff to left guard. If the Vikings wait much longer than that to address the position, you’re pretty much into “developmental” territory at the tackle position, but there’s still some talent there to develop. Tytus Howard out of Alabama State comes to mind, as does Max Scharping of Northern Illinois. The later rounds could still produce some interior prospects with the ability to play early on. I’d be looking for someone like Nate Davis out of Charlotte in the 4th-5th round range, or someone like Oklahoma’s Dru Samia or Alex Bars from Notre Dame a little later on. Even if the Vikings do address the offensive line early, adding someone like Samia or Bars later on certainly wouldn’t hurt. But, as we’ve been screaming for months, this is undoubtedly the #1 need for the Vikings going into the draft. They need to address it early, and in a perfect world they address it often, too. Wherever or however they choose to address it, this offensive line needs talent across the board, and the Vikings now have the opportunity to add it.Get it done, Mr. Spielman.

MIAMI (AP) — rdinator Dennis Allen is the third candidate to interview for the Miami Dolphins‘ coaching job.He met Saturday with the Dolphins Womens Jakeem Grant Jersey , who earlier interviewed New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Miami is seeking a replacement for Adam Gase, fired Monday after three seasons.Allen went 8-28 as head coach of the Oakland Raiders before he was fired four games into the 2014 season. Since he joined the Saints, they’ve risen from 31st in yards allowed in 2015 to 14th this season. The Dolphins are also expected to interview their special teams coach, Darren Rizzi; Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio; Dallas Cowboys secondary coach Kris Richard; and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak, now the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line coach. July 4th and the unfortunate news about Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton threw off our 24 training camp stories in 24 days series (and our 90-in-90 annual roster breakdown series), but we will make up for it today with two stories." 2019 Miami Dolphins Training Camp24 Miami Dolphins training camp stories in 24 days: Can Mike Gesicki become the tight end Miami needs?New Mark Duper Jersey ,15commentsJuly 4th and the unfortunate news about Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton threw off our 24 training camp stories in 24 days series (and our 90-in-90 annual roster breakdown series), but we will make up for it today with two stories. EDTWith the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki. The team added the seam-threat, red-zone-target, pass-catching tight end they had been missing for years. They had a player who would open up the offense, bringing a threat to the middle of the field as the speed-threat receivers went over the top.Except http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-mark-clayton-jersey , it did not happen in 2018. Gesicki struggled as a rookie at a position that often sees rookies struggle. He caught 22 passes for 202 yards. That is not enough for what the Dolphins need from the tight end position. It is not enough for what Gesicki wants to do in the NFL. Now, entering his second training camp with a new coaching staff, Gesicki should be coming into his own. His rookie season will have given him a chance to adjust to the speed of the game. The new coaching staff - with the head coach and offensive coordinator coming from the New England Patriots - have experience with how to use tight ends and how Pro Bowl tight ends can make a difference in an offense. They know what they want to see from a tight end, and now they have a second-year tight end to mold into that ideal. The Dolphins added Dwayne Allen to the roster this year, giving the caching staff a familiar tight end, and one who can help Gesicki find his role. Allen should also provide a more traditional Womens Nat Moore Jersey , in-line tight end to fee up Gesicki to be a hybrid tight-end/wide receiver style player. Add in Durham Smythe, who was drafted in the fourth round last year, and the Dolphins have a blocking tight end to add to the pass-catcher and the all-around players at the position.Gesicki needs to continue his personal development. He needs to come into camp this year working on his route running. He has to show that he is ready to take a (big) step forward this season. The coaching staff is going to work hard on getting him to be what they want and need, and Gesicki will have to take those lessons and turn them into performances on the field. Training camp will be huge this year for Gesicki.

The Competition Committee has made plenty of headlines this week regarding whether and to what extent the replay review process will, or won’t, change in the aftermath of last month’s NFC championship game. There’s one specific angle that the Competition Committee has yet to publicly or privately acknowledge in conjunction with the commencement of the official preparations for the 2019 league meetings. It’s the video official. Specifically Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , an extra official who would monitor the available camera angles and who would be available to correct egregious errors in real time — not as part of a second look but as part of the first look, but with the unique perspective of seeing what we all see when watching the game on TV.Per multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the NFL coaches’ subcommittee has recommended a video official to the Competition Committee. The Competition Committee initially didn’t react to it with enthusiasm, but as one source observed there’s no good argument against it. While some will wring hands and gnash teeth regarding the possibility of unintended consequences or a parade of horribles involving the video official not knowing the the seven officials on the field have, for example David Edwards Jersey nfl draft , opted to issue a warning instead of throwing a flag for defensive holding, there’s a way to craft this approach in a manner that will provide an umbrella of protection to the officials, ensuring that mistakes are avoided before the they become final and official and unavoidable, making the officials look incompetent and the league look inept.Surely, that’s not what the league wants. And if that’s what the league gets Custom David Edwards Jersey , eventually the Commissioner will get an invitation to appear before Congress to explain why the NFL isn’t doing more to ensure that hard-earned money wagered legally by American citizens is being placed at risk not by the skills and abilities of players and coaches but by the correctable-but-uncorrected blunders of the folks in black and white stripes. This isn’t the time to circle the wagons or to hunker down or to adopt and us-against-them mentality. This is the time to learn from a glitch that marred the NFC title game and prevent it from happening again. Whether the Competition Committee and/or the owners realize and embrace this will be one of the biggest questions confronted by the league over the next month.

After the Falcons lost Ricardo Allen to a season-ending injury in week 3 last season, Kazee stepped in and dominated. He led the league in interceptions (7) and graded out as the second-best defender on the team, according to Pro Football Focus. He earned the team’s highest PFF coverage grade. Put simply, he had a coming-out party. So what do the Falcons do with Kazee going forward? He’s under team control for two more seasons, and the Falcons need to get their money’s worth. Assuming Ricardo Allen is healthy enough to reclaim his starter role, the Falcons can’t justify parking Kazee on the bench. Head coach Dan Quinn addressed this predicament at the NFL’s spring meetings last month.Basically Kazee is forcing their hand. They have to keep him on the field. It’s time for the coaching staff to roll up their sleeves and get creative. Quinn is acutely aware of that reality. Given Robert Alford’s departure and the team’s commitment to Isaiah Oliver as a starter, the road to the nickel job is wide open for Kazee. His talent is undeniable, but can the coaching staff put it to good use? That’s the challenge going forward. And for what Quinn’s comments are worth, the Falcons seem committed to the cause. Your thoughts, Falcoholics? FLOWERY BRANCH Kaleb McGary Atlanta Falcons Jersey , Ga. (AP) — Takk McKinley says nobody feels sorry for the Atlanta Falcons‘ injury-ravaged defense. The second-year pass rusher makes a good point. Atlanta earned a playoff berth the past two years with a mostly healthy defense, but it’s a different story this season. The Falcons (1-3) are reeling now that Grady Jarrett, their best interior lineman, is the fourth defensive starter to miss Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh (1-2-1).“It sucks not having Grady out there, but we can’t be sad, because the Steelers won’t be sad about it,” McKinley said. “They won’t.”Jarrett’s ankle injury comes with the team’s best linebacker, Deion Jones, already out another six weeks and starting safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen done for the season. After allowing 80 points combined and losing their past two games in the closing seconds, the Falcons rank third-worst in scoring Calvin Ridley Jersey 2019 , fifth-worst in total yards and second-worst in third-down percentage. They’re a banged-up group that can’t seem to catch a break.Starting end Vic Beasley is nursing a sore ankle and has been limited in practice this week. Reserve end Derrick Shelby has been limited with a groin injury and hasn’t played since the Week 2 win over Carolina.Injuries at safety has given starting jobs to Damontae Kazee, who played in 16 games as a reserve last year, and rookie Isaiah Oliver, who played exclusively at cornerback in his last two seasons at Colorado.Coaches have leaned heavily on Kazee to tone down his aggressiveness following a penalty in preseason and an ejection for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Carolina quarterback Cam Newton. And the staff is working with Oliver, who made a big mistake last week against Cincinnati. Coordinator Marquand Manuel called zone coverage, and Oliver was playing too far in front when A.J. Green dashed behind him for the winning touchdown catch.“Going forward, I told the guys that you can’t line up without talking to one person,” Manuel said. “It’s the growing pains that you have to go through, but that’s a part of it. It’s new guys talking to new guys, and guys that have experience Black Calvin Ridley Jersey , we need them to talk more. And the guys that don’t have it, we need you to talk to guys that have it. That’s where communication starts.”Losing Jarrett is substantial enough that the Falcons will use a three-man rotation of Jack Crawford and Terrell McClain, a pair of longtime veterans, and Michael Bennett, who was signed this week after injuries allowed him to play in just one game last year with Jacksonville, to fill his spot.Rookie Deadrin Senat, a third-round pick, will take most of the snaps at nose tackle, where Crawford and McClain have split starts this year. Coach Dan Quinn added that third-string end Steven Means, signed last month Takkarist McKinley Jersey 2019 , might have to help out on the inside, too.Trying to restore some order for his defense, Quinn has spent the past few days emphasizing better fundamentals in tackling, ball-hawking, pass rush and communication.“None of those are scheme-related,” Quinn said. “None of those are wholesale changes. It’s a matter of us doing specifically those four things really well, and that’s why I think you’ll see this group get better quickly because of those four things.”There was some progress last week. Missed tackles dropped from 15 the week before to “single digits,” as Quinn described it, against Cincinnati. Kazee got his first career interception, and McKinley John Cominsky Atlanta Falcons Jersey , after missing the Week 3 loss to New Orleans with a groin injury, returned to have his first three-sack game.Linebacker Duke Riley says McKinley brought some swagger back to the defense.“We can’t make the excuses that we don’t have the guys,” Riley said. “We have the right guys in the room. We’ve just got to own up to it and be closers.”NOTES: RBs Devonta Freeman (knee) and Tevin Coleman (shin) and WR Mohamed Sanu (hip) had full participation in Thursday’s practice. WR Julio Jones (hand, ankle) is expected to play despite being listed as limited. Other players listed as limited Thursday: DE Vic Beasley Jr. (ankle), DE Derrick Shelby (groin) and LB Foye Oluokun (ankle).

DETROIT (AP) —ions have three straight home games coming up — probably their last chance to turn their season around and make a run at a playoff spot. The opposition is formidable Christian McCaffrey Womens Jersey , though. After three consecutive losses, the Lions host Carolina on Sunday. That game is followed by a Thanksgiving matchup with Chicago and another home test against the NFC West-leading Rams. There’s time for Detroit to rally, but the path forward looks difficult.“I think everybody’s doing everything they can to try and get us going,” said Stafford, whose team has scored only 20 first-half points over the past three games. “I think it’s a total team effort. Everybody’s trying to play better at all positions.”The Lions (3-6) will face a Carolina team that’s in a much better spot, although the Panthers (6-3) are trying to rebound as well from their most recent outing, a 52-21 loss to the Steelers on Nov. 8. The 52 points allowed tied the most in franchise history. Pittsburgh scored on seven of its first eight possessions.“I don’t think that is indicative of who we are as a football team,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “One game is not going to define who we are going forward. It is an example of what happens if we don’t play to our abilities and stick to our fundamentals, don’t play the defense, offense or special teams play the way that it is called.”The Lions and Panthers are in different divisions, but they did meet last season, when Carolina won 27-24 in Detroit. McCaffrey has run 45 times for 201 yards and caught 14 passes for 150 yards during that span.McCaffrey has been on the field for 96 percent of his team’s offensive snaps, more than any running back in the NFL.ROLLINGNewton has thrown for at least two touchdowns in eight consecutive games, a franchise record.“Obviously one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL and someone that can really change the outcome of the game all by himself,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said. “Still has obviously all the athletic ability, the arm strength now just kind of combined with the experience and his knowledge of the game. And he’s just really been able to take it to the next level and carry those guys around him.”SPEED ON TURFThe Panthers will get to see how their much-improved team speed does in their first game this season on artificial turf.Carolina added D.J. Moore from Maryland in the first round of the NFL draft, while fellow wide receiver Curtis Samuel back after an injury-plagued rookie season.“It’s going to be fun to see,” Rivera said. “We’ve got some quick guys who will be even quicker on turf.”PROTECTIONDetroit has allowed 16 sacks in the past two games, and the Lions put guard T.J. Lang on injured reserve this week. The Lions still have a couple of recent first-round draft picks on their offensive line in Taylor Decker and Frank Ragnow, but pass protection will be an area to watch this week.Detroit’s running game has improved a bit, but it wasn’t of much use last week after the Lions fell behind 26-0 in the second quarter of a loss at Chicago .MEETING AGAINDE Julius Peppers of the Panthers is still a factor at age 38. He had a sack in the game against Pittsburgh.Back in 2010 Christian McCaffrey Men Jersey , Peppers sacked Stafford, injuring his right shoulder. Peppers played for Chicago then, and he’s also spent time with Green Bay, so the Lions have seen plenty of him.“He’s 6-6, 295 pounds, whatever he is. Extremely athletic, very smart player,” Stafford said. “He’s seen a lot of football, he’s a smart rusher. We’ve seen him do just some things late in the pass rush, getting sacks, that’s pretty special.” The Panthers have the No. 16 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft."The Carolina Panthers’ lack of a consistent pass rush was a huge factor in the disappointing 2018 season. As of right now, only three defensive ends from last year will be returning. If it weren’t already obvious Color Rush Christian McCaffrey Jersey , the Panthers must address their issues at defensive end soon. Considering there’s a plethora of talented defensive ends up for grabs in the upcoming NFL Draft, what better time for Marty Hurney to add to the roster? Not much has changed for the Panthers in Dan Kadar’s latest mock draft for SB Nation. Kadar predicts Carolina will fill their defensive end needs with the No. 16 overall pick. Last week, he mocked Montez Sweat to the Panthers at No. 16. This week, it’s the same position, but instead he has Clelin Ferrell. My takeAt 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Ferrell is nothing short of a physical beast. His hand technique is superb with knowing where to place his hands on the blocker to make them vulnerable and being able to beat the block. Ron Rivera has stated the Panthers will run both a 4-3 and 3-4 defensive scheme. Ferrell’s ability to play with two hands, one hand, or no hands in the ground makes him ideal for either defense. His only flaw is his flexibility and burst at the pass rush. However, he has the power and ability to squeeze gaps against the run. I agree with Kadar that if Ferrell is still around, this would be a steal for the Panthers. What do you think?

na Cardinals picked Deionte Thompson Christian Kirk Hersey 2019 , an All-American safety out of Alabama with the first pick in the fifth round. The 6-1 195lbs Thompson is a true..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Podcasts The Revenge of the Birds podcastArizona Cardinals take Deionte Thompson of Alabama in the fifth roundNew,49comments Arizona Cardinals take Deionte Thompson of Alabama in the fifth roundJason Getz-USA TODAY SportsIt is all about value at this point. The Arizona Cardinals picked Deionte Thompson, an All-American safety out of Alabama with the first pick in the fifth round. The 6-1 195lbs Thompson is a true single high, center field safety, with ball hawking ability. He is a bit more of a thumper than former Arizona Cardinal Rashad Johnson, but think of him as the same type of player. The biggest concern with Thompson is health. There was talk that Thompson could be a first round pick during the middle of the college season, but he was knicked up down the stretch and his slim frame and hair on fire style makes him a bit of a worrisome prospect. However, watching Thompson play safety is a treat.A true two-way safety, with the ability to lock down in pass coverage, as well as drop down and thump in the run game, Thompson was the quarterback on the Bama defense. There is also a red flag of a knee issue with Thompson Black Mason Cole Jersey , but at this area, it is too good of a chance to pass up. Arizona running back David Johnson believes it could be a grand year. Two grand, even.Johnson came close to having 1,000 yards rushing and receiving once before and believes he can do it under new coach Kliff Kingsbury’s high-octane offense.“I definitely hope that a thousand/thousand is reachable and that’s always going to be my goal, with the team coming first,” Johnson said after organized team activities Wednesday.Only two running backs in NFL history have had 1,000 rushing and receiving in the same season: San Francisco’s Roger Craig in 1985 and St. Louis’ Marshall Faulk in 1999. Johnson was close in a breakout 2016, when he had 1,239 rushing yards and 879 receiving. Christian McCaffrey threatened last year with 1,098/867.Johnson has suffered through a pair of frustrating seasons since, however. He missed all but one game in 2017 after suffering a wrist injury in the season opener Mason Cole Jersey 2019 , and his totals were down when the Cardinals went 3-13 last year as defenses stacked the running lanes while daring rookie quarterback Josh Rosen to throw. Johnson gained 940 yards rushing (3.6 per carry) and 446 yards receiving. He sees a better fit now.“I think’s it going to be a dynamic offense,” Johnson said. “I think it is going to be a lot different because we are going to be at home in the shotgun. We’re spreading it out a little more. More space out there on the field. It is going to really helpful because only having to worry about one guy tackling you compared to three, four guys loading the box.“I think it is going to be similar to 2016. I think it will be better for me and I will be utilized as a running back and a receiver. A lot more opportunities to get the ball. A lot more opportunities to score and help out the team. I’m very excited.”Kingsbury, whose offense at Texas Tech frequently lined up in four-wide receiver sets, called the halfback in his system “pivotal.”“They have to be able to do it all, and we have a guy who can,” Kingsbury said. “Excited to use him in a bunch of different ways and try to get him the football … You can tell he has run routes before. He looks like he’ll be a tough matchup on some linebackers.”The Cardinals are in the early stages of installing their offense, but Johnson has seen enough to like the system.“I like his mentality,” Johnson said of Kingsbury. “We are trying to get a lot of plays in on offense. No huddle, because it makes it hard for the defense to call plays. They might not call blitzes as much.“I think he’s been tremendous not just the offense but as a coach overall. Straight to the point. Telling guys what he expects out of the whole team . I like what it has been like. The personnel we have. There are so many weapons we added to the offense.”Foremost, of course Black Chase Edmonds Jersey , is No. 1 draft choice quarterback Kyler Murray, the Heisman Trophy winner last year and the second straight Oklahoma quarterback to be taken with the first pick in the draft after Cleveland selected Baker Mayfield in 2018.“First off, he’s faster and quicker than I thought,” Johnson said of his early look at Murray.“And I think a lot of people underestimate how great he can throw. He throws an accurate dart. I see him in the quarterback drills, throwing it at the net, and he’s hitting five in a row and stuff like that.”Murray and Johnson seem to building a rapport.“He’s been great at the game,” Murray said of Johnson. “He’s seen a lot of football. He’s played a lot of football. I think we’ll be pretty versatile, as far as me and him go.”

ESTShareTweetShareShareForgotten Falcons: Michael Haynes Years in Atlanta: 1988-1993, 1997Stats: 266 receptions, 4,220 yards, 15.9 yards per reception, 34 touchdownsWhy you should remember Michael Haynes Nostalgia is a powerful thing, which is why I’ll always have an outsized love for the Falcons of the early to mid-1990s. Those were the teams I first fell in love with, and I came to them with a child’s awe that is difficult to match when you’re in your mid-30s and writing about or at least thinking about this team every single day. Even with the honeyed glaze of the past on those teams, though, you have to admit the Falcons of that era had some legitimately great players. While Andre Rison, Jeff George, Deion Sanders, and Chuck Smith are easy to summon up in the halls of your memory, there are several players who made huge contributions to the team who aren’t as readily remembered.Michael Haynes is certainly one of them. In my memory he looms very large, even though he was “just” 6’0” and 184 listed. From very early on, though, Haynes was a dangerous deep threat with speed who absolutely ate defensive backs alive, and he had one of the most productive single seasons in franchise history before the likes of Roddy White and Julio Jones came along.Let’s back up Qadree Ollison Atlanta Falcons Jersey , though. Haynes came into the NFL from Northern Arizona in the seventh round of the 1988 draft class, and he found himself in an offense that made sparing but effective use of him his rookie year, when he caught 13 balls for 232 yards and 4 touchdowns. He followed that up with two solid seasons, with a 1989 40/681/4 and 1990 31/445/0 slash line as part of some fairly productive offenses. He really came into his own in 1991, however. Haynes was an absolute monster that year for the Falcons, snagged just 50 balls and turning them into 1,122 yards and 11 touchdowns and averaging an absurd 22.4 yards per reception. He was a key player on a team that made the playoffs for the first time in a very long while, and he proved it wasn’t a fluke by following it up with 48 balls, 808 yards and 10 touchdowns in 1992. Haynes would play one more season in Atlanta in 1993, putting up a career-high to that point 72 receptions for 778 yards and four touchdowns, transitioning into more of a possession, high-volume sort of role for Atlanta. The Falcons lost him to (guess who) the Saints the following season, where he enjoyed three solid seasons before returning to the Falcons in 1997 and managed 12 receptions, 154 yards, and one final reception. He retired following that season.Haynes is far from the biggest name in franchise history at receiver—they’ve had a collection of greats over the years, from Alfred Jenkins to Andre Rison to Terance Mathis to Roddy White and now to Julio Jones and hopefully Calvin Ridley—but Haynes was a terrific one for several seasons. Perhaps more importantly, he was one of my earliest favorite Falcons, and for that any his stellar 1991 season Youth Qadree Ollison Jersey , we salute him on this sleepy Sunday. ATLANTA (AP) — Handed the perfect setup against a depleted, struggling Atlanta defense, the New York Giants‘ offense again fell short. No one was more surprised than Odell Beckham Jr .“I did think this was going to be a big day for us,” Beckham said.Instead, the Giants were held to two field goals through three quarters of their 23-20 loss to the Falcons on Monday night. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns were not enough to win the game or convince anyone in the New York locker room that answers had been found for season-long scoring woes that led to the Giants’ fourth straight loss. The Giants (1-6) were frustrated by an Atlanta defense which has three starters on injured reserve and had allowed the second-most points and third-most yards per game in the NFL.After the game, Beckham sat facing his locker, holding his head in his hands before finally heading off to his shower. When he faced reporters later, he was calm but frustrated.“It’s the little things, the little pieces that you’ve got to put together, the little things that are the difference between losing and winning,” Beckham said. “We just haven’t found a way to put it all together.”The statistics would suggest Beckham did his part with eight receptions for 143 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown catch with only 5 seconds remaining. The touchdown made the final score look more respectable, but it brought Beckham little comfort. He chastised himself for failing to catch a 2-point pass that could have cut the Falcons’ lead to 20-14 with about five minutes remaining.“That’s something I have to go home with at night,” he said. “That’s tough.”Despite having such weapons as Beckham, Sterling Shepard, who had five catches for 167 yards, rookie standout running back Saquon Barkley and two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning, the Giants have found no answer to their season-long inability to turn yards into points.“We know we have talent Black Desmond Trufant Jersey ,” said tight end Evan Engram. “We’re doing things. We’re just not putting the big picture together. That’s what’s frustrating. … We’re just going to keep working, and it will eventually pop.”The Giants have scored no more than 20 points in five of their seven games.“I can’t give you the answer,” Barkley said. “We’re not executing. We’re not finishing drives. That’s the gist of our season. … We’ve got to find a way to execute and finish our game.”There were no turnovers to blame. Manning threw for 399 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, but he was sacked four times for a loss of 27 yards. Entering the game, the 37-year-old Manning had been sacked 20 times, third-most in the NFL.Barkley was held to 43 yards, his second-lowest total of the season, on 14 carries. He added nine catches for 51 yards.“Honestly, personally I didn’t play a good game,” Barkley said. “… I wasn’t the player I usually am.”The difficulties in scoring might have influenced coach Pat Shurmur’s aggressive play-calling.With Atlanta leading 10-3 early in the third quarter, Shurmur left his offense on the field for a fourth-down play from the Atlanta 1. Manning’s pass for Scott Simonson was incomplete.Shurmur again left his offense on the field to go for a 2-point play after Barkley’s 2-yard scoring run cut Atlanta’s lead to 20-12 in the fourth quarter. Giants players supported the call, which ended with the incompletion to Beckham.“He has faith in us that we’re going to put it in the end zone,” Shepard said. “I love that the coaches have faith in us.”Added Beckham: “I like the call. I love being aggressive.”Shurmur said analytics show “You increase your chances by 50 percent if you go for it and make it there, so that’s what you do.”Shurmur said going for 2 was “an aggressive approach. … I think from a head coaching perspective, I want to be aggressive for our guys.”

Could the brightest Youth Da’Norris Searcy Jersey , youngest offensive mind in the NFL really have implemented one of the worst play-calling schemes in Super Bowl history? Rams running back Todd Gurley’s noticeable absence in Super Bowl LIII against the New England Patriots where the League’s leader in touchdowns touched the ball only 11 times (10 rush, 1 rec), speculation has run rampant about what could have restricted the former MVP-runner up. Was Gurley secretly hurt? Did game flow REALLY dictate his lack of usage? Were the Patriots truly dominating so much defensively Gurley wasn’t a viable option?Well, Whitlock made his take very clear on <em>Speak for Yourself</em> in the clip above, calling head coach Sean McVay’s gameplan “garbage.” Whitlock doesn’t believe the arguments that the rhythm of the game dictated Gurley, who signed a lucrative extension over the offseason, shouldn’t be a featured part of the Rams offense and certainly doesn’t buy into the debate running backs aren’t as valuable anymore, citing Christian McCaffrey’s dominance for the Carolina Panthers. While the debate will continue on as to why (and how) Gurley was restricted to just 34 total yards on the NFL’s biggest stage, so too does the journey for Gurley to bring the Lombardi back to LA for the first time in franchise history. As the NFL free agency period starts, a crowded safety group means there will be a lot of possible solutions to the Carolina Panthers’ questions." Carolina Panthers free agency 2019The free agent market is loaded at safety this offseasonNew,106commentsAs the NFL free agency period starts, a crowded safety group means there will be a lot of possible solutions to the Carolina Panthers’ questions.ESTThe Panthers re-signed Eric Reid in the offseason to a contract averaging $7 million per year Blue James Bradberry Jersey , addressing their strong safety need before free agency and the draft. However, with Mike Adams and Colin Jones departing, only Rashaan Gaulden and Da’Norris Searcy remain to start opposite him. It is somewhat likely that the team feels these guys could be feasible in 2019, however the 2018 season showed that Carolina’s approach to the safety position doesn’t work so well without elite front seven play. Addressing that and completely turning it around could be a major challenge to do in one offseason, so addressing the free safety position would make a lot of sense. Let’s break down the free agency class to see what’s realistic, and what isn’t.The pipe dreamsEarl Thomas: Despite coming off a season ending injury in 2018, Earl Thomas is still widely considered one of the best free safeties in the NFL. He’s a game changer, and on the open market he should warrant a mostly guaranteed one-two year deal that will still pay him up in the top as far as annual salary goes. The Panthers can’t afford this unless Marty Hurney can get really creative.Landon Collins: Collins is coming off a year where he was at worst in the conversation for defensive player of the year. Collins is going to reset the safety market, and Carolina doesn’t have the money.Lamarcus Joyner: After coming off the franchise tag as a versatile defensive back for the Super Bowl runner-up Los Angeles Rams, Joyner is looking to get paid this offseason. A player like him who can play both safety positions and have value in the slot is going to get paid on the open market by a team with bonkers cap space. The short term guysEric Weddle: Weddle was cut by the Baltimore Ravens following a good 2018 season. Weddle is 34, and likely looking for his last NFL contract. Due to his familiarity with Ron Rivera, he could be an excellent fit in Carolina’s supposedly multi-front system in 2019. The issue would be how much he thinks he’s worth after being cut from a $7.5 million deal in the 2018 season.Glover Quin: At 33 James Bradberry Jersey 2019 , Quin hits the market as another veteran likely on his last contract in the NFL. Quin has experience as a free safety, therefore a team like Carolina should be interested in him. The wear and tear certainly is there, but the Panthers have made it work in the past with primarily strong safety type players at both positions. With a sub $5 million cap hit in 2018, his services could be had for around the same price... hopefully?George Iloka: Iloka is coming off an $880k contract with the Vikings, however he barely played in 2018. He likely enters free agency looking for a prove it deal to show he’s still got some mileage left. He’s more of a question mark than most who would be looking for a short term deal, but Carolina may be willing to pull the trigger to let him fight it out with Da’Norris Searcy and Rashaan Gaulden for playing time.Tre Boston: Boston again took a one year prove it deal in 2018 with the Cardinals, and didn’t really prove he deserves upper tier safety money. With a crowded safety market, he could be looking for another prove it deal with potentially more incentives. Could a return to Charlotte be in the cards? The surprisesAs much as I’ve personally advocated for Carolina to address the safety position, I’m not sure if they will sink significant capital into the opposite starter with some of the other names on the market. Adrian Amos, Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, Tyrann Matthieu, and Adrian Phillips likely will receive higher offers that will look inflated compared to average safety contracts out there. That is the nature of free agency. However Stitched Da’Norris Searcy Jersey , there’s a chance Carolina structures a contract in the way they did for Bashaud Breeland in 2018 (before he failed his physical) which gives them significant cap flexibility over the span of the deal. I wouldn’t bet money on it myself, but addressing the safety position long term at least gives them the ability to really go after the front seven in the draft. My pickI think the Panthers will sign Eric Weddle. Ron Rivera knows how to use him, and as I’ve said he has experience in 3-4 and 4-3 defenses. Weddle can play both safety positions, and would be a fine addition opposite Eric Reid. The Panthers don’t really use a traditional strong and free safety, as their assignments generally change throughout the game. However, with Weddle’s flexibility and experience he could be an excellent short term answer while the Panthers sift through the draft for a better one in the long term.Weddle showed he is still one of the better safeties in the NFL, and it would give Carolina time to develop Gaulden if they truly believe he is going to be a safety. The signing makes sense, though they’d have to make some cap moves to make it happen.stares at Torrey SmithWho would you like to see the Panthers sign, Panthers fans?

I’m dealing with a mean sinus infection right now and I don’t know if the sensation of my eyeballs wanting to pop out of their sockets is coming from that or having watched this game. That was as much of a disaster as could be in the first half. The first drive alone saw a inside run into an 8 man box, followed by a timeout Black Sam Bradford Jersey , then the first pick six. It was all downhill from there. (On the bright side I started the Broncos DST in my home fantasy league...)A couple of deep touchdown passes and another pick 6 off a miscommunication between Rosen and Nelson later and this team would find themselves in a Super Bowl-sized first half deficit. All to a very pro-Denver crowd.I’d say to hope the coaching staff is able to make adjustments and show some semblance of life at the half, but having gone listless on third down and completely shut out in the third quarter this season... well...It looks like the offense will truly have to pull a rabbit out of their head to pull off a miraculous W and overcome a 32 point deficit, but things don’t look good my friends.

ATLANTA (AP) —mmitment to the Atlanta Falcons running game and offensive balance with new coordinator Dirk Koetter. The Falcons’ outside zone scheme won’t change Youth Ricardo Allen Jersey , though Quinn on Thursday said Koetter and the revamped offensive staff will bring new tweaks to the playbook.Quinn has made a dramatic overhaul of his coaching staff following a disappointing 7-9 finish . He fired each of his three coordinators while announcing he will take over the defense. On Tuesday, Quinn brought back two former Falcons offensive coordinators when he hired Koetter to direct the offense and Mike Mularkey as tight ends coach.Quinn said Koetter, the former Tampa Bay coach, won’t totally remake the offense.“The systems will stay very similar,” Quinn said. “The vision will certainly stay very similar in how we want to play ball. The way we go about executing that and find different ways to feature guys, that will have some change to it.”The Falcons lacked offensive balance this season, relying too heavily on a passing game led by quarterback Matt Ryan, receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and tight end Austin Hooper.Atlanta ranked sixth in total offense but only 27th in rushing. Those numbers were affected by season-ending injuries suffered by running back Devonta Freeman and starting guards Andy Levitre and Brandon Fusco.Quinn said he was impressed by Koetter’s success featuring running backs Doug Martin in Tampa Bay and Maurice Jones-Drew in Jacksonville, where Koetter was offensive coordinator from 2007-11.“Having that kind of balance, Dirk and I both agree Stitched Ryan Schraeder Jersey , is the best way to attack and is the best way to feature the guys on our team,” Quinn said.Expect to see more carries for Falcons running backs in 2019.“The thing I think for us to get back from an identity standpoint is the amount of run attempts,” Quinn said, adding he likes the way “we attack” through the air.“What I’d like to make sure is we can feature … the run game” to make play-action passes more effective.“We’re going to work really hard at that,” he said, adding “That will be a big part of our identity, not just this year but for years to come.”Quinn announced new roles for some assistants. Kyle Flood, who had been assistant offensive line coach, will have a new senior assistant position. Quinn said “a big part of his role” will be assisting with clock management and replay decisions on the sideline. Also, Dave Brock will coach running backs instead of wide receivers. Bernie Parmalee Youth Ryan Schraeder Jersey , who had been running backs coach, will assist new special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica , who was hired from the Washington Redskins on Wednesday.Koetter and Mularkey will be renewing relationships with Ryan. Mularkey was Ryan’s first offensive coordinator in 2008-11 under former coach Mike Smith. Koetter directed the Falcons’ offense from 2012-14.Quinn said that familiarity will help the transition in 2019.“I do believe a past relationship of working together can pay off,” Quinn said, adding Koetter and Mularkey have talked with Ryan and other players.Quinn said “more than two or three” candidates were interviewed before Koetter and Mularkey were hired. He said Ryan was not consulted during the interviews.“I would say in no way was he involved in the process,” he said. ThursdayNew,37commentsTime to start playing bully ballEDTShareTweetShareShareThe Ravens need to build around Lamar Jackson... ThursdayLamar Jackson turned 22 years old a day after the Ravens suffered through a disappointing loss in the Wild Card round against the Los Angeles Chargers. As a 21 year old, Lamar Jackson accomplished a great deal. 42 Louisville school records. a Heisman and a runner up. Jackson was a first round draft pick, the second youngest quarterback selected, and significantly outplayed most pundit’s expectations. L.J. posted the second highest QB rating, lowest interception percentage, and has played in more playoff home games than the Cleveland Browns have since the AFC North was created. Jackson has displayed flashes of brilliance and also showed areas that he desperately needs to improve.Jackson needs to keep two hands on the ball in the pocket. He needs to allow the running-back to take the ball on read options more, instead of hanging onto the ball for too long and causing a fumble. He needs to step into his short throws and follow through more (especially on outside screens). He needs to make sure he doesn’t short-arm the ball and deliver strikes. Finally, among other things, he needs to continue to develop his strong throwing base. Let’s take a look at how far Jackson has come since his early years at Louisville:Jackson had a tendency to stand with his feet too close together in the pocket. Power comes from a wide base. A narrow base causes overcompensation from the upper body, making the task harder than necessary. This translates to difficulty repeating the same motion. In the NFL, consistency is king. Lamar stated after voluntary OTA’s that “laziness” was the reason for some of his inaccuracy. Jackson has never seemed to be the lazy type. He’s a gym rat. That simply means that he isn’t practiced enough yet where his throwing motion is an afterthought, rather something that he still needs to focus on. With first team reps, more practice, and hard work... Jackson will improve. That improvement can’t happen overnight. Mike Vick completed merely 44% of his passes over seven starts during his rookie season. Dak Prescott completed 67%. They are not the same person, but if you gave Michael Vick Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin White Hayden Hurst Jersey , and Ezekiel Elliott... that’s a scary thought. Translation— build the offensive line. Mark Chichester, PFFThe Ravens offensive lineman weren’t pushovers by any stretch of the imagination. Ronnie Stanley allowed the lowest percentage of pressure of any LT in the league. Yanda hasn’t let up a sack in years. Orlando Brown Jr. was doing this as a rookie:That’s all good news. However, there was much to be left desired at the center and left guard positions. Take a look at what happened when the Ravens faced some top tier defensive line talent:Geno Atkins is arguably the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL over the last ten years. It’s certainly no easy task to anchor him after snapping the ball. Lamar was still able to make a decent throw despite the interior pressure:Again, Lamar is able to make an accurate throw despite interior pressure:Jackson’s ability to reset in the pocket, keep his eyes downfield and continue to keep the play alive are elite. His fundamental consistency in his base and throwing motion is below average by NFL standards. Let’s look at some of Jackson’s worst moments from this past year:When Lamar Jackson feels rushed before he can read the coverage, he tries to snap his arm with a side-arm release, doesn’t point his toes to his receiver and essentially throws the ball away. Not pointing his body to his target to really debilitates his accuracy. However, the other rookie QBs also suffered from inaccuracy and were more turnover prone than Jackson. Lamar lost four fumbles and threw three interceptions over his seven regular season starts. He averaged one turnover per game. That was the lowest per game ratio of the five first round quarterbacks selected in 2018. Two of those lost fumbles were strip sacks as he was bringing the ball up to throw. Does Lamar need to hold onto the ball with two hands more often? Yes. Is it as bad as the average Joe makes it seem? No.With all of that being said, Lamar’s capability to escape the pocket, buy time, and keep his eyes downfield are exceptional. However, if the Ravens get more stout up front at center and left guard, it will only allow for elevated success. The three positions of need that fans and pundits alike mock the Ravens to draft are receivers, interior offensive lineman and edge rushers. Ravens’ Nation clamors for receivers because they’re flashy. However, it’s downright irresponsible to ignore the interior offensive line. If Marshal Yanda is injured (knock on wood) and heaven forbid Orlando Brown or Ronnie Stanley have to miss time, what becomes of the offensive line? Do we want some combination of Skura, Lewis, Hurst, Eluemunor protecting the 22 year-old who’s still developing into a consistent passer? Particularly one who has had some trouble keeping the ball off the turf? That’s why it’s systematically irresponsible for the Ravens to fail to address the offensive line in 2019’s NFL Draft. There are a few players who can play guard or center from day one:Erik McCoy- Center, Texas A&MErik McCoy is the most impressive power/pulling center I’ve seen in quite some time. He EXPLODES out of the blocks and possesses a wonderful combination of punch, footwork, IQ and power. He fared better than anyone else against ‘Bama and Clemson’s NFL caliber front-7’s, respectively. The reason I like McCoy over Garrett Bradbury is because he is more suited for a power running scheme with lots of pulls Justin Tucker Jersey 2019 , traps, etc. Bradbury is also a stud, but seems to be a better fit for a zone rushing scheme. Greg Roman is notorious for his power concepts. I think McCoy has the slight edge as a pulling center, but both would be an upgrade at center or left guard in 2019. Plus... McCoy is just downright mean...Garrett Bradbury- Center, NC StateNFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah referred to Bradbury as “The Grim Reacher” because of his outstanding ability in reach and combo blocks. Bradbury is extremely mobile at getting to the second level to wall off linebackers, or to reach and seal a double team and open up a running lane. He is quick as lightening off the snap, and seems to be an extremely smart player. The ONE knock I have against Bradbury is that he doesn’t have the greatest “anchor” or ability to stonewall a bull rush by sinking his hips and using leverage. It’s not a weakness by any means, but some NFL strength and conditioning could certainly help the converted tight end continue to get stronger as he matures. With that being said, don’t be confused, Bradbury is a mean S.O.B. Cody Ford- Tackle/Guard, OklahomaFord is just a jerk. He’s mean. He’s your older brother. He’s bigger, he’s stronger, and you annoy him. He’s that bouncer that keeps giving you dirty looks, but you wouldn’t dare say a word to because he just scares the crap out of you.Ford presents a little different ability than McCoy as he probably could be a quality tackle in this league. On the Ravens, he would kick inside to guard, as he did for the majority of his career. However, he would be a great option should injuries cause some rotation among the Ravens’ big men. He is better when pulling or running with the ball right behind him, rather than on outside zone plays as a tackle. His strong paws clamp down, then don’t stop until opponent is on the ground or the whistle is blown. He could take over once Yanda leaves, and the Ravens could continue to play bully ball for years to come. Dalton Risner- C/G/T, Kansas StateRisner is a rarity. He’s played all five positions over 42 starts at the college level. He isn’t quite as athletically gifted or powerful as the lineman previously mentioned, but he has smarts, heart and versatility. He uses good technique and is an able mover. He might not be as massive as some of the other lineman in this draft like Jawaan Taylor or Andre Dillard White Justin Tucker Jersey , but he would provide great versatility for the Ravens with his experience playing multiple positions. Some of the top tier talent at the college level got the best of Risner, but he also made sure to make an impact on them as well. He sort of reminds me of James Hurst with his versatility, but has much better footwork and could reach a Pro Bowl level.Chris Lindstrom- G, Boston CollegeLindstrom has a baby face, but don’t tell him that. He’s a technician who explodes off the ball. To me, he’s the best guard in this draft. He drives defenders off the ball with a combination of technique and strength. He’s also a better athlete than given credit for. I think Yanda would love to play with this dude, and show him the ropes. Not that Lindstrom needs that much help anyway...Elgton Jenkins- C, Mississippi StateDon’t be surprised if the Ravens trade back and add Elgton Jenkins the four year center from Mississippi State as well. Allowed 5 pressures in 2018. Extremely solid pass protector who won about half of his reps during the Senior Bowl.As previously stated, regardless whether the Ravens trade up, down, left, or right, they need to solidify the offensive line. In my opinion, Erik McCoy will be an All Pro player early on, and would give the Ravens exactly what they need moving forward. Any of these five lineman would ensure that regardless of injury, the Ravens can trot out a formidable offensive line to give Lamar the time to find receivers. Whether they catch the ball or not, offensive lineman win championships, not receivers. I would like to see them double dip to ensure the Ravens have the blockers they need to pound the rock. Everything else can fall in place later, Baltimore needs to address the line Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

With football just around the corner Stitched Julius Peppers Jersey , Panthers fans are confident that good things await the Cardiac Cats in 2019." fans’ confidence jumps to 93 percent in latest FanPulse surveyNew,2commentsWith football just around the corner, Panthers fans are confident that good things await the Cardiac Cats in 2019.EDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Carolina Panthers fans’ confidence jumps to 93 percent in latest FanPulse surveyTwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailWith the 2019 season just around the corner (it’s less than a month away, y’all!), we reached out to our group of Carolina Panthers fans who have signed up for our FanPulse surveys to get an idea of how confident they are in the direction of the team. Well, the people have spoken, and as it should probably be expected with the fresh start of a brand new season upon us, Panthers fans are very confident in the direction the team is headed. An astonishing 93 percent of Panthers fans said they are confident in the team’s direction. That’s up from 75 percent the last time our fans were surveyed following the 2019 NFL Draft! Fan confidence has steadily climbed since the end of the 2018 season when it was at a paltry 24 percent. The Panthers had a solid free agency period when they added several quality veterans to the roster (notably center Matt Paradis, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and edge rusher Bruce Irvin) and re-signed a few of their own free agents (safety Eric Reid, right tackle Daryl Williams, safety Colin Jones and defensive tackle Kyle Love).Panthers Fan Pulse confidence results(percentage of fans who voted ‘confident’)End of 2018 season — 24%Start of free agency — 65%Pre-2019 draft — 62%Post-2019 draft — 75%Preseason Week 1 — 93%The 2019 NFL Draft was also kind to the Panthers, as fan confidence jumped from 62 percent before the draft to 75 percent after it. The Panthers ended up taking seven players in the draft, and were able to rebuild their pass rush with several of those picks by selecting edge rushers Brian Burns and Christian Miller. They also added some solid depth on their offensive line by taking Greg Little and Dennis Daley Youth Da’Norris Searcy Jersey , and took care of the backup quarterback position by getting Will Grier in the third round. They also managed to pick up some potential depth at running back when they found Jordan Scarlett in the fifth round. Now that training camp is over and the season is just a few short weeks away, Panthers fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming season. Franchise quarterback Cam Newton is recovering well from offseason shoulder surgery (the main reason fan confidence was only 24 percent at the end of the season last year), and Curtis Samuel appears to have taken the leap to No. 1 wide receiver status in his third year (if training camp reports are to be believed). But wait, there’s more! The defense looks to be adapting well to the switch to a 3-4 alignment, and several players are stepping up and handing their new roles quite well. Marquis Haynes looks like he he was built to play as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense and is off to a solid start this year, and Burns looks like the guy that everyone will wish they drafted before he fell to Carolina at No. 16 overall. Win or lose, the Panthers should be fun to watch this year, but if you ask me I think there will be more winning than losing in 2019, and fans have every reason to be confident that this season could be a special one for Carolina. But what about you, Panthers fans? Are you confident that this season will be a good one for the Panthers? Share your thoughts with us, and while you’re at it feel free to sign up for FanPulse and let your voice be heard! The Panthers haven’t had what you’d call a memorable season, but it ended in appropriate way.Specifically, they lost yet another quarterback Blue James Bradberry Jersey , as just-signed Garrett Gilbert had to finish things up in their 33-14 win over the Saints. After Cam Newton‘s shoulder finally let go, and Taylor Heinicke was placed on IR after his first start, the Panthers had to turn to Kyle Allen to start this one. Allen didn’t make it through the game, after being dropped hard on his right shoulder. Gilbert, who is set to play for the Orlando Apollos of the AAF and was signed last week so they’d have two healthy ones, had to finish the game. Running back Christian McCaffrey was warming up late, preparing to serve as the emergency quarterback if anything happened to Gilbert. The Saints (13-3) had already secured home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, and barely looked interested. They didn’t even dress quarterback Drew Brees and running back Alvin Kamara, and left tackle Andrus Peat left the game with a hand injury and didn’t return.Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater started and threw a touchdown and an interception, on a day when he was dealing with an extremely limited playbook. The Saints got on the board early in the fourth quarter, after the Panthers raced to a 30-0 lead. They haven’t been shut out during the Sean Payton-Brees era, as the last shutout was in 2002. The touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith extended that streak of games with points to 272 games, the longest such streak in the league. The Panthers snapped a seven-game losing streak in the process James Bradberry Jersey 2019 , and finished 7-9 on the season. In their 24 years in the league, 7-9 has been their most common record, happening eight times (also in 2012, 2007, 2004, 2002, 2000, 1997, and 1995).They’ve finished the year with 12-4, 11-5, and 8-8 records three times each, and their all-time record now stands at 190-193-1.So 7-9 sounds about right.

in free agency. Let’s discuss which of the new Cardinals will have the biggest impact in 2019. Also: will any of these players even be around in 2020?"As we discussed previously Youth Larry Fitzgerald Jersey , most of the Cardinals’ player acquisitions this offseason have been made with 2019 in mind—which is in line with GM Steve Keim’s usual approach to free agency. While I don’t love the idea of continuing to plug roster holes with stopgap solutions, it’s also common knowledge that teams aren’t built through free agency. We’ll see if Keim can add a few franchise building blocks in this year’s draft. But, for now, let’s take a look at his roster moves thus far through the lens of 2019. Which new Cardinals will make the biggest impact on the field next season? We’ll then briefly discuss whether this approach to free agency is the right one. Let’s start by discussing a few players whom Cardinals fans should hope don’t see the field much in 2019.Limited ImpactBrett HundleyMax GarciaKevin WhiteDamiere these three.5) OLBs Terrell Suggs/Brooks ReedThese two will likely combine to man the OLB spot opposite Chandler Jones. Reed figures to play on early downs and obvious run situations, while Suggs will be the 3rd-down and pass-rushing specialist. I think we’ll get very solid play from this duo—I’m especially excited to see what Suggs can do chasing down QBs alongside Jones. I just have them a little lower on this list as it seems likely that a rookie edge player will cut into their playing time—whether it be a top pick like Nick Bosa/Josh Allen or a later pick. At least, there’d better be a rookie pushing them, as both of these guys are basically on 1-year deals.4) TE Charles ClayClay is the best tight end we’ve had in the desert since… I don’t know, maybe ever? Not that he’s a Pro Bowl–caliber player Limited Chandler Jones Jersey , or even an above-average starter. I mean, he’s 30 years old and coming off a season in which he only caught 21 passes with no TDs. But the TE position has been so barren for years that Clay is a monumental improvement—or at least, he will be if he stays healthy (he always seems to get nicked up). From 2013–2017, he averaged 57 receptions, 600 yards, and almost 4 TDs a season. If he can even come close to replicating those numbers—or even 80% of those numbers—he’ll be worth every penny of the $2M we’ll be paying him in 2019.3) RG J.R. Sweezy and RT Marcus GilbertThe new right side of our O-line have both been competent players when healthy. And that’s the key for these two—“when healthy.” Sweezy has been pretty durable other than the 2016 season in Tampa Bay, which he missed after offseason back surgery, but Gilbert has played just 12 games combined the past two season after suffering various lower-body injuries. He has two 16-game seasons on his resume Chandler Jones Cardinals Jersey , but he has also missed 9 or more games three times. Still, there’s no doubt that this duo, when on the field, will be an improvement on Justin Pugh playing out of position and the tackle formerly known as Andre Smith (as well as the revolving door of their replacements). But the question remains how long they can stay healthy.2) DE Darius PhilonDefensive line was one of the biggest team needs this offseason, and many started to panic a bit when the position went unaddressed for most of free agency. Although the D-line is still an unfinished project, Keim rallied nicely with the Philon signing. Philon was a bright spot on the D-line for the Chargers in 2018 and is still young (25) and pretty cheap (2 years, $10M). He will look good next to Corey Peters in the trenches and should help both against the run and the pass (8.5 sacks combined the past two seasons). Philon won’t be an every-down player, but he will produce when on the field for new DC Vance Joseph.1) ILB Jordan HicksThe 2018 season was a down year for the usually sturdy Redbirds defense Elite Chandler Jones Jersey , and the play at inside LB was a big reason why. The inexplicable change to a 4-3 didn’t help matters, but guys like the departed Deone Bucannon and 2nd-year player Haason Reddick were constantly out of position in the running game and couldn’t cover opposing RBs in the passing game. Veterans like Josh Bradford, Bene Benwikere, and Brice Butler (remember him?). Every free agent acquisition from last year aside from Justin Pugh are now gone. Again, you can’t build a team through free agency, but you should at least be able sign a handful of contributors each offseason. Hopefully Hicks and Philon are those guys from this free agent class. But you have to question Keim’s continued reliance on castoffs, retreads, and “prove-it” players—especially given his fallow draft classes of the past few years. These kind of “Keim Time” signings worked well when he was drafting well—signing veteran players to complement the foundation he built through the draft. But they don’t work as well when there is no foundation to complement. If this latest free agent crop doesn’t pan out and he makes the wrong call with the #1 pick Game Chandler Jones Jersey , Keim Time might be up sooner that most think.Any thoughts on these new players, Redbirds fans? Who do you see making the most impact in 2019? What do you think about Keim’s approach to free agency? Let us know if the comments. Bless their hearts, the Cardinals are selling this thing as hard as they can.The team with the No. 1 overall pick’s latest attempt to talk around the elephant in the room came in the form of the traditional draft position-by-position series. After listing the three quarterbacks presently under contract, they listed the team’s need at the position as “Low.”Other than the fact that most people expect them to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, I suppose that’s the case. This isn’t to make fun of the Cardinals’ website staff, they are good people who work hard creating quality internet content about the NFL’s all-time losingest franchise (the Bucs do have them on percentage — .385 to .424 — but the Cards had a 56-year head start and stints in Chicago and St. Louis while amassing 753 Ls).But the franchise has been clumsily selling some position (it’s hard to tell which one) throughout this offseason.Team owner Michael Bidwill started the ball rolling by saying they had to “build around the foundation” they had. Which was fine and nice of them to prop up 2018 first-rounder Josh Rosen, except new head coach Kliff Kingsbury had previously declared he’d take Murray first overall if he had the chance. Which he now does. Then Kingsbury tried to talk up Rosen, and the team wagged its Twitter finger at the rest of us Chandler Jones Womens Jersey , which was all fun until General Manager Steve Keim went to the Scouting Combine and said Rosen was their quarterback “right now, for sure.” Then they made a show of not showing up for Murray’s Pro Day (while of course arranging private workouts and meetings with him).If this sounds like we’re picking on the Cardinals, we’re not (well maybe a little). But their efforts to keep a straight face throughout this process have left them tangled in knots a time or two. All we can be certain of is that a team whose depth chart includes Rosen, Brett Hundley and Charles Kanoff has a need at the position that is definitely something other than “Low.”

CHARLOTTE Christian McCaffrey Jersey Super Bowl , N.C. (AP) —l speed the past few NFL drafts, don’t be surprised if the Carolina Panthers look to add bulk up front this year. The Panthers have needs at left tackle and defensive end following the retirement of Julius Peppers and the release of Matt Kalil. Carolina struggled to protect quarterback Cam Newton last season while the pass rush fell off — two major reasons Carolina finished 7-9.Panthers general manager Marty Hurney predictably didn’t offer many clues to the team’s upcoming draft plans, but said he likes what he sees from both positions in this year’s class.“It’s a strong group up top and it’s a deep group,” Hurney said of the defensive linemen available.Hurney also predicted there will be a handful of offensive linemen who’ll be selected in the first round, and said that the group is strong overall. After Kalil was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury last summer, Carolina brought in journeyman Chris Clark to play left tackle before turning to Marshall Newhouse later in the season. The Panthers re-signed right tackle Daryl Williams this offseason, a move that could potentially mean Taylor Moton will shift to left tackle. But if someone such as Washington State’s Andre Dillard or Florida’s Jawaan Taylor falls to No. 16, the Panthers may head in that direction. Carolina hasn’t drafted an offensive tackle in the first round since Jeff Otah in 2008.On the other side of the ball, the Panthers signed veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin to a one-year deal, but he’s not viewed as the long-term answer opposite Mario Addison. Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell Christian McCaffrey Jersey For Sale , Michigan’s Rashan Gary and Florida State’s Brian Burns are potential options with the 16th pick that could help fill the void left by Peppers’ departure.“It’s a good class of edge rushers,” coach Ron Rivera said. “We feel really good about the guys we have seen.”Some things to watch for the Panthers in the NFL draft:NEWTON’S SUCCESSORHurney sounded optimistic about Newton’s recovery, saying the 2015 league MVP is gaining more range of motion in his surgically repaired right shoulder. However, Newton hasn’t thrown a football yet.Newton has two years left on his contract, and it’s possible the team could start looking for a long-term replacement.“Our philosophy is you have to develop young quarterbacks,” Hurney said. One potential option outside of the first round is West Virginia’s Will Grier, who grew up in Huntersville, North Carolina, — about 20 miles north of where the Panthers play their home games. The Panthers have met extensively with Grier this offseason.SAFETY DANCEThe Panthers re-signed Eric Reid to a big contract earlier this offseason, but the other safety spot remains up in the air after the team parted ways with veteran Mike Adams earlier this offseason.Rashaan Gaulden Christian McCaffrey Jersey On Sale , a third-round pick in 2018, and Da’Norris Searcy are potential replacements, but if the Panthers can find a safety with a knack for causing turnovers in the second or third rounds there is a real chance they could fill that need.REPLACING OLSENGreg Olsen has been a magnificent player for the Panthers, but the three-time 1,000-yard receiver has struggled to stay on the field the past two seasons because of foot injuries. All signs are Olsen will be back for another season, but at some point the team will need to look to replace the 34-year-old tight end.Carolina drafted Ian Thomas last year with the 101st overall pick and the jury is still out on whether he can develop into Olsen’s heir apparent. But don’t rule out the team grabbing another tight end at some point during the draft.McCAFFREY’S BACKUPNo running back in the NFL was on the field more last season than Christian McCaffrey. And while Rivera still believes McCaffrey has a chance to reach 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in a season, he’d like to lessen his role just a little bit.The Panthers have Cameron Artis-Payne coming off the bench, but a back with a similar skillset to McCaffrey — fast Christian McCaffrey Jersey Sale , shifty and multi-talented — would be ideal.TEPPER’S TIMEThis will be new owner David Tepper’s first NFL draft since purchasing the Panthers for $2.2 billion last summer, and he’s been heavily involved in the team’s draft process.“He’s very excited and Ron and I communicate with him every day,” Hurney said. “He’s looking forward to being in the draft room. He’s dropped in on our meetings with scouts and has a good feel” for the draft. Gardner-Johnson would be the modern defensive back the Panthers defense has been craving for years. Should the Panthers take a chance on him in the 2019 NFL Draft?"Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is a former four-star recruit from Cocoa High School. Gardner-Johnson was a productive player for the Gators’ defense. His talents were fully on display in 2018 under defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s scheme. He finished with 71 tackles, four interceptions, two pass break-ups, nine tackles-for-loss, and three sacks during his final season in Gainesville. Film reviewGardner-Johnson’s played a nickel role for the Gators in 2018. This is a similar position that Carolina’s 3rd round pick, Rashaan Gaulden, played for his alma mater in 2017. The difference is Gardner-Johnson shows a complete skill set to thrive as a modern safety. The first area that stands out is his tackling. He is composed, but aggressive when he pursues the ball carrier. Gardner-Johnson doesn’t waste any steps. He takes a second to identify the direction before coming down hill to fill. More importantly Replica Christian McCaffrey Jersey , Gardner-Johnson consistently took the right angles when the ball is near him. His technique is still inconsistent, but with better teaching by NFL coaches that can be improved. Due to his primary role lining up in the slot, Gardner-Johnson would see plenty of match-ups in man coverage. He typically lines up off the line of scrimmage, but this plays into his strengths. He stays low while reading the receiver’s routes. His fluidity and explosiveness to push off on his back foot allows little separation. Gardner-Johnson stays physical with the receiver at the top of the routes, which shows he can be an asset if he does line up in press man. There will undoubtedly be questions about Gardner-Johnson’s transition into a deep safety role. He was rarely asked to execute that role for the Gators in 2018. However, that’s not to say he can’t do it. This interception during his final game against Michigan demonstrates his fluidity to quickly change directions. Then he shows the ball skills to pick off the pass. As my friend Betz says, Gardner-Johnson passes off the over route and then once he reads the quarterback he transitions into a deep safety. His ball skills are also going to attract many teams. While this interception should be credited to the defensive lineman for tipping the ball, Gardner-Johnson stays alert in his zone assignment to pick it off. He finished with two pick-sixes in 2018.To further exhibit his versatility, Florida wasn’t shy of having him blitz off the edge. Like his tackling, Gardner-Johnson aggressively pursues the ball carrier while also staying controlled. The question teams will have to reconcile is how to fully implement Gardner-Johnson’s skill set on their defense. He struggled as a deep safety in 2017 Stitched Christian McCaffrey Jersey , but it’s clear that Grantham and the Florida defensive staff found a defined role for him in 2018. As the Patriots showed in the Super Bowl, NFL defenses are becoming more about match-ups and versatile defensive backs taking on multiple roles. Fit with CarolinaDespite playing a similar role to Rashaan Gaulden during his final college season, Gardner-Johnson is the superior prospect in every facet. Gaulden was a poor athlete. He also didn’t show enough in man coverage or as a deep safety to warrant his selection in the third round. The Panthers continuing to play a 37-year-old safety and Colin Jones over him confirms that. Gardner-Johnson would be the modern defensive back the Panthers defense has been craving for years. He has the fluidity, athleticism, ball skills, and physicality to become a difference maker for a defense looking for contributors.
